Why it’s addictive

Dance to the music you already listen to.

West Coast Swing is danced to pop, R&B, blues or acoustic: the music you hear today. It’s smooth and modern, and it’s based on improvisation and a conversation with your partner, not on choreography.

Capacity and roles

This is how places are confirmed.

To make the class work we balance leaders and followers. Places are limited and are allocated like this:

As a couple or as a leader

Guaranteed place: if you come as a couple (each person fills in their form saying who they’re coming with) or sign up as a leader, your place is secured until the class is full.

Solo follower

You go onto a priority waiting list. As soon as someone of the opposite role signs up, we offer you the place in order of arrival.

Dual Role programme

There are usually more followers than leaders. If you’re on the waiting list, you can switch to leader and secure your place instantly, keeping that role for the whole course.

90-minute classes

90′

Almost twice as long as the usual 50-minute classes in other schools and styles: real time to practise and dance.

A unique opportunity in the Levante: outside Valencia city there is no other West Coast Swing school or teacher. In Alicante and the Region of Murcia, we’re the only place to learn it.

More than classes, a community: we organise meet-ups and socials, and travel together to festivals all over Europe.

The community

This is what West Coast Swing feels like.

Classes, socials and festivals: you learn in class and enjoy it on the dance floor, with people who dance with you every week.

Who teaches you

Ray and María Jesús

María Jesús and Ray, West Coast Swing teachers at WCS Levante

Ray · Raymon Bilbao

He has been dancing since 2010. He started at Spirit of St. Louis, the pioneering swing school in Spain, and trained in Lindy Hop, Balboa, Collegiate Shag, Blues, Funky, Forró, Rock and Roll and Boogie. In Valencia he co-founded the travelling school Valencia Swing with Silvia Pellicer, which taught at 6 schools across the city.

He discovered West Coast Swing in 2020 and since 2022 has trained every month with All-Stars Sara Mouchon and Fran Vidal. He’s a regular at Arousa Westie Fest, Enxebre, Mediterranean Open and Olé Swing, and has learned from Robert Royston and John Lindo, whose teaching method he has adopted. In 2025 he earned his first competition points at BeeMad, finishing 5th in his category final.

María Jesús

She has been dancing salsa, bachata, kizomba, tango and Lindy Hop for 20 years, as both leader and follower. Her patience, perfectionism and style make her essential in class. She volunteers her time, out of passion for dancing and the shared dream of building a big West Coast Swing community in the Levante.

Both keep training non-stop at the same festivals, to bring you the latest in West Coast Swing every season.

Frequently asked questions

Everything clear before you start.

Do I have to fill in a form if I come with my partner?

Yes. Registration is individual so we can manage capacity and roles. Each person fills in their own form and adds the details of the person they’re coming with.

What if I sign up without a partner?

No problem. If you sign up as a leader, your place is guaranteed. If you sign up as a follower, you go onto a priority waiting list and we offer you a place as soon as someone of the opposite role signs up. You can also switch to leader with the Dual Role programme.

What’s the difference between leader and follower?

The leader guides and suggests; the follower follows, interprets and styles. Neither role is tied to gender: choose the one you’d most like to learn.

Why do we rotate partners?

Because West Coast Swing is a social dance. Learning with different people is what lets you dance with anyone, on any dance floor in the world.

Do I need previous experience?

No. The workshop starts from absolute zero and you don’t need to know other dances. Classes are taught in Spanish, with English support whenever you need it.

What does the price include?

€35 per person: three hours of class with a break and two hours of assisted social dancing. If you already have the basics, the second part plus the social costs €20.

How much are the regular classes?

€40 a month for 4 classes of 90 minutes (one a week, on Wednesdays from 20:00 to 21:30, from 11 November). The registration fee is €35 with 50% off the first year: €17.50.
